Did you know that skin absorbs 60%-70% of what’s put on it?
We talked to Women's Health + Wellness Expert Aimee Raupp, who is based in NYC, about upgrading the personal care products we choose to use in our daily lives. “Many skincare products including deodorants are made up of chemicals considered to be endocrine disruptors. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals, when applied to skin, get into your bloodstream and disrupt hormones; hormone disruption can lead to autoimmune diseases and cancer.” So if you’re looking to get a start on a more clean routine, Aimee suggests starting with anything used on a daily basis, such as deodorant or facial moisturizer.
Frank Lipman, MD, is a pioneer of functional medicine and recommends avoiding the following 18 chemicals commonly found in personal/skincare products:
DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine), TEA (Triethanolamine)
Pthlates and Parabens
FD & C Color Pigments
Imidazolidinyl Urea and DMDM Hydantoin
PEG (Polyethylene Glycol)
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Triclosan Talc Petrolatum
Not only did we choose the best clean deodorants out there, we selected the most delicious scents we could find.
