Carlos Mare is a New York City icon of Contemporary Urban Art and Hip Hop Culture. Recognized as a cultural asset of the early NYC Subway art movement circa 1976-85. Carlos Mare aka Mare139 is a pioneering Sculptor, Painter, NYU Scholar, and US State Dept. Cultural Ambassador who exhibits in galleries and museums worldwide and often lectures about Hip Hop and contemporary art. His notable works included designing the Annual BET Award and winning the 2006 Webby Award for the classic documentary Style Wars. Currently he is exhibiting in the Middle East, US and Europe. His works have evolved to include Fashion, Award design, Public Sculpture, and soon Architectural interventions.
