Punched Up Pairing

For Holiday Makeup This Season, More Is More

There's that style rule about accessorizing: get dressed, choose your accessories, then remove one of them. One could argue that the same, often unspoken rule might apply to, well, applying makeup. Choose just one feature to go bold with: focus on creating eyes that pop with liner or shadow; lips in bold hues that steal the show; deeply defined cheeks, or skin that gratuitously glows. This season's holiday makeup begs to differ. Recently displayed on runways across the world, were punched up-pairings, namely daring combinations of statement-making eyes and lips. Why? It wasn't very long ago that even makeup mavens and cosmetics queens gave up lipstick because of masks, and most people's cosmetics bags gathered dust until it was time to wake up for a Zoom call with friends or colleagues. We're craving color and we can't be restrained. We're craving style and something to unabashedly get dressed for. Behold and be bold. We've entered an era of more-is-more makeup just in time for the holidays.
And let it be a reminder of all there is to celebrate.
