Earlier this season, we were introduced to the Biossance line of skincare products, and fell in love instantly. Biossance's key ingredient is squalane. The human body produces its own version (known as squalene), but the amount made and retained in the skin decreases over time. It peaks in our teens and then starts to decline in our 20’s, leaving skin rough and dry.
We got the full rundown from Teresa Lo, Biossance's Senior Director of Marketing, and Nancy Leung, who is head of New Product Development & Innovation. The Berkeley, California based company uses innovative biotechnology to "make a positive impact on the world," and believes the category of skincare should be no exception, "because our standards for clean beauty are high, and our standards for ourselves are even higher." Using only the most trustworthy and powerful ingredients in their products, Biossance offers a large, truly comprehensive range of items from an EWG approved SPF (a difficult feat to achieve) to hydrating cleansing cloths that don't strip the face, to a retinol serum, and a fine squalane-packed facial mist that can be used with or without makeup.
While the Biossance brand is "very clinically based," Lo and Leung explain that "the goal is to deliver a terrific consumer experience." That, indeed, they have. With a product for every possible skincare need and meticulous dedication to quality and the environment, we just can't wait to see what they do next.
