Sarah Paulson in Carolina Herrera; Priyanka Chopra in Balmain; Rashida Jones in J. Mendel; Tracee Ellis Ross in Chanel Haute Couture; Jessica Biel in Ralph & Russo.
Nicole Kidman in Calvin Klein; Susan Sarandon in Zac Posen; Zoë Kravitz in Dior Haute Couture; Yara Shahidi in Prada; Claire Foy in Oscar de La Renta.
The look at the Emmys was elevated and understated; our favorite looks exuded elegant restraint in terms of color and styling. While Priyanka Chopra was a bombshell in Balmain and Sarah Paulson went all out in high shine silver by Carolina Herrera, we also loved the simplicity in silhouette combined with refined color as seen on Rashida Jones and Shailene Woodley.
A notion often overlooked, jewelry provides the opportunity to both make a statement and add savvy sophistication to red carpet ensembles. We always applaud stars that think beyond traditional diamonds. Debra Messing in David Webb, Heidi Klum in Lorraine Schwartz, Oprah Winfrey in Nikos Skoulis-- are all perfect examples of how fine jewelry in bold color, non-traditional styles, and modern shapes can add so much pizzazz to the formal and the fancy.
Mandy Moore rocked our world with the perfect lip wearing Laura Mercier's Boudoir lip colour (add it to your beauty bag now before it's sold out). "Beachy waves" became such a trend that they found their way into more formal looks on the red carpet. We often scratched our heads at stars who embraced the look that if not carefully coiffed appears simply messy. This season, Robin Wright killed this style mastering soft, tousled layers worthy of her column gown.
Favorite trends included the sea of silver that practically covered the red carpet; modern texture in the form of feathers, and exquisitely mixed black and white. While many talented actors and actresses posed in gorgeous frocks for their glam shots, these were by far our editor-approved, favorite looks. Stay tuned for more red carpet round ups all season long. -TR
