The cherry-on-top addition to all of your winter looks? An epic coat. Why? A coat delivers your first impression. In the dead of winter, it’s your ticket to getting out into the world. It's your best friend, your urban armor. As far as I’m concerned, coats fall into two categories: coats for warmth, and coats for fashion. If you’re a suburban girl, running from parking lot to destination without a coat or jacket is fine. But for city dwellers, the coat takes on a deeper meaning. And it's a necessity. Urban women need their closets filled with different coats suited to a variety of climates and for a myriad of events. A goose down puffer is the coat of choice for those days of tundra, while a nicely tailored wool coat the right choice for business settings. And then there are jackets. Jackets, in fabrics of various weights, fit the bill for when the chill is just a whisper and usually work well with trousers or jeans.
Below, our edit of favorite toppers for the season. Get ready to update your fall wardrobe while keeping that chill at bay.

The addition of a blue fox fur hood provides total protection from the cold.
5. TORY BURCH COLOR BLOCK COAT
Colorblock doesn’t have to scream “look at me” like it once did in the 80’s. Leave it to Tory Burch to perfectly combine the color block trend with a tasteful and classic coat design. This one’s got the length to work with those long dresses you’ve just purchased, so you’ll be covered from top to toes. Well, almost.
6. CANADA GOOSE FUR TRIM PARKA
This goose down brand has become the go-to for Canadians and New Yorkers alike, and for women who are looking for full coverage during the coldest of months. The coat is engineered with technical features for superior warmth, and has become the ubiquitous urban coat for the dead of winter.

12. 3.1 PHILLIP LIM WINDOWPANE CHECK TRENCH COAT
Every girl has a trench, but this is a trench with a twist. If this coat had an astrological sign, it would be Gemini because of its two distinct personalities. The front has a navy windowpane design, and the back is neutral tan. Mixed elements add up for one cool-looking coat.
