WAYS TO SPF

SPF Is Non-Negotiable And No Longer An Ingredient To Be Found Only In Sunscreen.

We talked to Story + Rain skin expert, Dr. David Colbert, who shares his tips for protecting skin from the sun.  Colbert explains that UVA rays are what give us a tan, while UVB rays are what cause us to burn. But both are indicators that our skin has been damaged. In terms of traditional SPF, he explains the important difference between physical and chemical SPF. The NYDG line of products he has created are chemical-free and act as a physical shield, reflecting the sun rays away from us - as though we were holding an umbrella in front of our face. (And besides avoiding the dreaded C-word diagnosis, keeping our skin looking youthful and spot and wrinkle free for as long as possible is a total priority). Colbert cautions us to remember that the sun's rays are powerful from morning to night, not just midday. So apply sunscreen first thing in the morning, and reapply often!

We love the idea of upping our protection factor with SPF infused makeup and accessories. This new crop of products provides a plethora of options, to be used solo or in conjunction with one another-- for the ultimate in protection from the sun's powerful rays. Colbert tells us that he thinks makeup and clothing that contain SPF are “ great add-ons". He recommends products by Colorscience because they're lightweight and non-greasy on the skin's surface, and feels that sun protective clothing is "another great addition". Still, he cautions that we must “make sure to apply SPF in any areas that are not completely covered by clothing such as face, neck, ears, and back of hands".
